I have a dream...

I think I've just decided what my next project will be. It's just an idea at this point, and it won't happen for quite some time (if it happens at all), but I'd still like to run a few things by the forum before I get my hopes up too much. What I was thinking was a sort of Strat/SG hybrid:

Ash Strat body (rear-routed)
Mahogany/rosewood neck (Strat or LP)
Trans red finish
Vintage 6-hole bridge (since I have one lying around)
Two P-90s
Some sort of pseudo-SG custom pickguard

My main question is this: is there room inside a Strat control route for an SG-style control layout (i.e. 2 vol/2 tone + toggle)? While I think this could look really cool, I'm not sure I'm interested if I can't make that happen. Also, the bridge I've got has a 2-7/32" spread; what nut width goes with a bridge like that?

So if anyone has any opinions, I'd love to hear 'em! Also, a mockup would be neat... *ahem*  :icon_jokercolor:

Cool idea. I'd go with a rear route Strat to get the 4 knob + toggle layout. Add a custom Gibson-type pickguard with no controls mounted on it. A TOM/STP might be better than a trem to do the hybrid thing. Maybe a recessed TOM if you don't like angled necks.

My thoughts exactly. The trem is really just because I already have it; it's sort of my justification for building another guitar, especially a Strat. I always said I wouldn't own multiples of the same guitar unless they were quite different. Hense the StratG.  :laughing7:

EDIT: 500th post! Hooray for me!  :laughing7:
