Cool! I remember wanting one of those years ago when I was in high school.
It's a little low tech I think for what I'm doing at the moment in school (read: less complicated) But I wonder if one would be a good investment anyway.  Let us know how it does.

Ya, it's nothing super extravagant, but it's fun to play with. I already have an older version of the BR series the BR532, nice little 4 track, but it's a bitch to transfer files from. This ones got a built in cd burner and 10 tracks, plus some other tid bits. The built in cosm is awesome, wide rang of effects and amp settings, plus this one has a few more external connections...

I really really want a Micro BR. those things do damn near everything.  Sure beats an iPod
Those micro's look pretty cool...Hadn't seen them.... :icon_thumright:

Pretty cool, Doug. I may need to look into one of those eventually. You never know how much you mess up until you hear a recording  :laughing7:

......the first time you hear your singing voice on playback is not the greatest moment in your life. Not everyone sounds like Elvis believe me!   It's also amazing how sloppy your guitar playing technique sounds too, pick scrapes, neck/finger rubbing squeals, palm lazily lying across strings and the dead notes....it's all there!

Good buy there Doug. I've gone into the PC for many a year, but am starting to wonder whether that kills some spontaniety accessing the PC, booting the program, doing the setting, menu selection etc. Something like what you bought is probably better for getting ideas down while they are still hot in your head, then transferring across onto the PC and editing/mixing it to death.

I can't stand all the fusking around it takes to record into a computer on a day-to-day basis - I think recording yourself might just be the single biggest step you can take towards improving your playing, but it has to be easy, or it's not going to happen. I have a few loopers that are one-button quickies, and a Tascam DP-01 that gets a fair amount of use. However, I probably still get the most noise-per-minutes down on ye olde Fostex X-12, I don't care if it's perfect, it just has to be easy... I've burned out three or four of them over the years (didn't they used to be the X-15?) but so what. I can't pay a band to live with me on-call, and they'd probably not clean up after themselves anyway....

There are some very good teachers who advocate recording absolutely everything you play, using the cheapest mono taped decks you can find, but I do noodle an awful lot just to even get to where I'm finding something interesting. I also like the "NOW CONCENTRATE" :party07: vibe. If you just want to play like somebody else it's not really important, but to find your own stuff... how else?

I tried the computer thing a few years back, and was kinda dissapointed. The program I bought wasn't terribly expensive but still a considerable amount, and it sucked. Plus it was a pain in the ass to hook up all my stuff to the computer. I'm sure over the years programs have gotten better, but unless you have your guitar hooked up to the computer all the time, you loose the spontaneity of being able to get down the ideas that pop in.

It all depends on what your reason for recording is.  If you want to make a marketable EP or even a demo.  A computer is the way to go and software can be as much a help as your hardware.  But for improving your playing, you guys are absolutely right, there is no point in spending the money.  Even a simple cassette tape recorder will do the trick and do it cheaply and well.
