How to best secure a temporary neck piece?

What is the best way to attach a piece of wood in the neck socket to facilitate the finish process?  Should I use two or more of the pre-drilled hole for bolting the temp neck in place or am I better off drilling a couple of holes and using wood screws to secure the temporary piece into the middle of the socket?

I  drilled the four holes into temp neck and used long thread thin bolts to attach body.took care not to over-tighten and damage body

I do what Leejord does - 4 holes drilled into an oak paddle, and thin screws/nuts/washers to hold it on. #6 or #8 x 3" or so will do it. Here's a work in progress that shows that scheme...

Just find an old neck with a cracked heel and clamp in in one of those workmate thingies:

but a regular stick works for me too:

I use a flat board slightly narrower than the one first posted and add a thin shim between the forward mounting holes which allows the finish to make contact with the inside edge of the pocket, trims out clean around an attached neck.  You can also use a suitable piece of tubing hammered flat on one end. It can be stuck in a larger pipe to spin the body or stick it on a rod to spin the body. My flat board works in an engine stand however you can do just as well by holding the handle and spraying the body.
