How do I charge for a build?

Hi Guys--

I have been thinking about turning my hobby into a little bit of a business. However, things have changed since I was putzing with guitars in college. I used to trade an intonation and a setup for two cases of anything that wasn't Bud Light or Bud Heavy. While I never had to buy beer for a good long time, and everyone liked it due to the fact that the only other guy in the town I went to college with was a little bit of a swindler who truly didn't know what he was doing.

I'm curious on how you guys charge for builds or repairs. I had originally assumed that you would charge the cost of parts, and then add a certain percentage above the cost for labor and profit. My dad, however, does furniture repair work and charges by the hour, in addition to the supplies. If anyone could shed some light on how you guys either charge or have been charged, please let me know.

Thanks much!

I charge £200
This includes;
fret dress
nut (always working from an oversize blank)
wiring and assembly etc
set up

Any additional stuff (compensated nut, custom wiring) is extra.

I generally supply all the parts, and make some profit on these.

For a full build if warmoth parts, i'd charge atleast 15-20% of cost as profit, for repairs just do it off of your time and what youd like to make per hour, also depends on what people are willing to pay. some skilled things may be 40 dollars an hour while other may be 10.

I've done business with this guy since the 70's, this list might be a good, straightforward place to start. At least it will give you some ideas.
