HEY YOO GUUUYYYYYYYZZ

The first coat of tung oil seriously brought out the ash grain.

Guys, I hate like damn to say this, but I think Standard Thin is too thin for me. I might have to sent it back and find a Fatback.
The sads. I has them.

I feel you on that one: I ordered a custom fretless baritone flying V neck (the fretless part making it non returnable).  Only after was it put together & strung up a few days did I realize it was really uncomfortable for my hands.  Then I built a guitar with a 59 roundback and realized what I was missing.  There is a cure for teh sadz: Just yesterday ordered a superwide w/fatback for my Firebird project.  :icon_biggrin:

I still think about a few things I can do with the V neck, but it's either change my technique for that one instrument, or feel strained after playing it for a few mins.  :sad1:

Or, donate it to me!  I have extensive fretless bass experience, would love to set up a guitar like that, and I happen to enjoy the standard thin profile.

Could you not tung oil it inside?  The tung oil I've used is pretty tame on the nose, especially compared to just about anything with petrochemicals in it (ie - TruOil)  Or is the master of the house not down with that idea?  :-\

You people were absolutely right about not tunging the canary neck! I had no idea how smooth and soft it would be! Ash body is preparing itself to be tunged.

Those exotic woods are magical, aren't they? I was skeptical about going without a finish, too. But, I now have a both a pau ferro and bubinga neck, and they're just a joy to play with. Everything everybody says about them is true. They feel great, sound great and look great. I'm looking forward to getting a neck like yours, as well as a goncalo alves and wenge neck. Good thing I'm not currently married, although my family is starting to think I'm nuts.

Of course, they thought I was nuts when I paid $600 for a 10MB HDD back 100 years ago. "What the hell are you going to do with that much storage?"

Silly humans.

Cagey, got a pic of your bubinga neck?

Yeah, but they're old and not great. Normally, I take a lot more pictures, but this one is sort of on hold at the moment until I figure out how to get a bridge that makes me happy.

It's currently attached to a candy tangerine Strat body I got from a member here, and is likely to stay there. It's a Standard Thin Warmoth Pro neck with a jet black ebony board that has stainless steel 6100-sized frets poked into it. Fine piece of work, would recommend it to anybody. It's very similar to a pau ferro neck I have with the same specs, almost to the point where I can't tell them apart. But, the bubinga has a slightly more open grain that's straighter than the pau ferro, and it's also a lighter weight wood.

Incidentally, that gold neck plate is clearly not very Dangerous, but I already have one of his pieces of neckwear for it. I put the gold plate on there to show somebody else who insisted that I should put gold hardware on it across the board that gold clearly didn't go well with the tangerine. The current plan is for it to have black hardware, although I'm starting to weaken in the battle to get to get a black bridge so it may end up all chrome.

Sorry, but this is obligatory:

But it does.

It's a fact!  :icon_thumright:

No, it's an opinion.

I'm not saying it looks bad. Far from it. And I don't have anything against gold hardware. My best guitar has gold hardware. That's how I ended up with that plate after replacing it with some Dangerous Neckwear. I just think black or chrome would look better on the tangerine, preferably black. But, that's just me. Who knows? Maybe I'll be sorry, and think it looks like a Halloween decoration <grin>

I would like to mention that I do not particularly care for gold hardware, even moreso with orange than usual.

Well, I called up W, and Rob convinced me to keep the neck after all! "Find a comparable neck profile and take the strings off and compare those two shapes." He is absolutely right. My For Sale thread is gone.
The Canary remains MINE!
