Help picking a no-finish neck

If you're worried about sounding too bright, I would avoid the Ebony fretboard. Although I would suggest not being afraid of brightness! You can always roll the tone back or turn down the treble or presence.

Your idea of a solid rosewood neck is good though... they tend to make the highs really round and non-piercing. Almost like warming up the highs yet keeping them clear.

I know you've already heard about wenge necks, but I've got to tell you that I love mine.  I have a wenge neck with ebony fretboard and SS frets, and I don't think it's too bright (it's on par with my Gibson LP that has a mahogany/ebony neck.
Wenge looks badass too.

My canary neck is supposed to be bright so I figure a hollow (chambered) body would be a nice
balance.
