Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends here!

Well doing T day on Sat. Spent most of today working , as I will tomorrow (99% of my holiday shopping is already done. Sat is in-laws day, sun is more work and a gig that evening.

Here’s a joke
What’s the difference between in-laws and outlaws?

Outlaws are wanted.

Had a couple of brother inlaws became brother outlaws, personally I'm introvert and detest holidays, family gathering makes me anxious.

Today i wonder about all the ways to eat left over turkey ... turkey salad for lunch ... turkey soup ... and turkey tetrazzini!

Turkey enchiladas, turkey pot pie, turkey & dumplings, and let's not forget my favorite: the toasted turkey and cranberry sammich (aka the "gobbler" in some circles.)

Ooh, you know I might just have to cook another turkey so that I can experience the turkey enchilada! 🦃

The turkey enchilada is a culinary delight, no doubt, but it doesn't touch what I consider the all-time reigning champ of food portamentos:
the jamburrito.

I first encountered the jamburrito at a food truck in New Orleans, and it is exactly what it sounds like: a burrito stuffed with jambalaya and cheese.

Fortunately, my wife cooks a MEAN jambalaya with rice, Andouille sausage, and shrimp. Just like a Thanksgiving turkey, we enjoy it in its original form on the first night....but it's the "leftovers" we are really looking forward to. Over the next day or two the rice soaks up all the extra liquid, rendering the jambalaya the perfect consistency for burrito filling.

Once you're ready, put it in a tortilla shell along with some cheese, and then (and this is KEY) toast it.

Prepare your tastebuds for the best merging of cultures since jazz.

so, about 20 years ago, i became mildly obsessed with Pocky. for thanksgiving, i went on a trip with my partner to the west coast (California) to visit her family, and while there we found a Pocky shop that had nothing but Pocky. chocolate, strawberry, milk, one just called “men’s” (dark chocolate), along with what we call the "Freak Flavors." stuff i haven’t seen before or thought were myths/urban legend. mango Pocky, durian Pocky, peppered Pocky, peppermint Pocky, ghost pepper Pocky (lots of pepper related even and meat (!!) varieties. horseradish Pocky, and even things I didn’t know were flavors, like "shoe Pocky" and "outer space' Pocky. i didn’t get to buy that one or taste it. the guy said that one was $20 per pock (singular form of a Pocky stick) so I was like "no".

it then occurred to us, driving around, eating Pocky, that the address on the box said the US Pocky corporation was right there in California so we took upon ourselves to go see where the Pocky was made. it took us a couple of hours to get to the factory in Irvine, which is a low, nondescript building (so plain i couldn't even descript it if I wanted to) in a mixed-use neighborhood/industrial park. zoning laws must be weird out there lol

inside the lobby of the factory was a old man easily over 70, who did not speak english as a first language. i asked if we could have a tour, and he was like “No.” he was confused, so I showed him some of the Pocky we’d bought, and said, “we’re from St Louis, we really love Pocky, i thought we could see the factory.” this seemed to make him sad. like existentially sad.

he just stared at us, the corners of his mouth pulling down as if weighted, shook his head again and said “no.” we stood there for a minute or two, not knowing what to do and left the building. as I started the car the old man opened the front door and watched us drive away. in our rear-view mirror, i watched him climb into a tiny minivan (the license plate said POCKY), and followed us all the way out of the neighborhood.

maybe it was my fault for assuming the Pocky factory was like a brewery or the M&M factory, but then again, what do they have to hide? #InvestigatePocky

happy t-giving

don't know Pocky? that is politely astounding. it's basically glucose sticks of various flavorings. you've probably seen them at like Barnes and noble and other places. heck, I see them in Safeway
