Hanging Guitars

I want to hang my guitars from an overhead I-beam in my basement. I don't want to drill any holes in the I-beam. I imagine it will require some sort of hanger attached to some sort of beam clamp. Any ideas?

Can't you throw something (rope) right over the top of the whole beam, or is it flush? In my head I can see the kind of peghead hooks you'd need - just sort of a double hook just wide enough for the top on the neck, made out of some wire twice as thick as the thickest coathanger wire, and covered over in some sturdy foam.

Or, you could get some... 3"? 2.5"? PVC pipe, cut into sections, then with a slot cut into it for the neck. If you're planning on falling in love this spring, you could try to hook up with a macrame chick, see what sort of talents she can bring to bear.  :icon_thumright:

Grainger is your friend but probably 90% of what they have will be overkill for your application:

I have decided to mount regular wall hangers from the floor joists, which from the basement's perspective, would be the ceiling rafters. Thanks for the ideas tho!

Is there a verdict on whether best to keep stored guitars hanging or in a case?  And if in a case preferred to be standing up or laying down?  Would be great to display guitars - just wondering if in the very long run there is a meaningful difference?

Thanks!

Humidity and sunlight are the major concerns. If those are ok, you should be fine leaving them out. Of course my toddler will try to pick guitars up off the rack if he ever gets in the music room. the case also protects against that too. (He can work the latch, but he fixates on one latch, and Ilve never seen him attempt to get a guitar out of the case, but its only a matter of months) Substitute roommate, teenager, bandmate, buddies, crazy ex gf for toddler as needed.)
