What's your favorite horror film?  I think The Shining probably scared me more than any other movie.

Human Centipede. :blob7:

I liked the Saw series. Specifically the first and second films. I don't watch horror films often, though, so I'm sure others will have better suggestions.

1997 canadian film .... CUBE

  Opening scene .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnuRpHkg0H8

Just for something to do one day.
From a video tape of that movie I had, I copied that opening scene into my iMac.
Tossed it into Logic ....
Cleared the soundtrack and I did some of my own music / effects over that as an experiment on doing film score.
Those that have viewed it ..... say Wow !!  :icon_biggrin:

Other follow ups of that film where .... Cube 2 Hypercube  and  Cube Zero

I've been curious about renting that movie from Amazon On Demand for a while. It's supposed to be kind of like Darren Aranofsky's "Pi."

I don't think any movie has ever frightened me, but I remember being quite anxious and getting startled a number of times the first time I saw "Alien". Still my favorite movie of all time.

For being genuinely scary I always recommend The Orphanage. It's subtitled but somehow that just doesn't matter. Creepy.

For fun horror films to watch at Halloween, some of my favourites are:

Halloween
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Scream
Carrie
Dawn of the Dead
Psycho

I agree. I've probably seen "Alien" at least 100 times and if was on tonight, I'd watch it again. "The Shining" I've probably only seen a dozen times, but again, if it was on tonight...

Ended up renting it before bed last night. Cool movie, but not really horror so much as thriller. The ending was good.

Alien is in my top 10 movies ever list.  I've seen Cube, it was pretty awesome.  I liked it.  Actually, I've seen most of what you guys have suggested.

Anyone seen Insidious?  I didn't sleep all night after that one.  But that's probably because the demon guy in it looked exactly like the monster in this recurring dream I had when I was a little kid.  Plus it was a good movie.

Insidious was a bit boring for me. Too slow paced. I liked the bizarre scenes, though.

I like slow burn horror and suspense a lot better than slasher-y horror though.  Usually the longer it drags on, the more freaked out I get because I freak myself out anticipating stuff.  But I literally had to turn it off a couple times so I could calm down for like 10 mins.

Right, the kind of movies where something pops out at you or makes a noise every two minutes are rather irritating. When I watched The Haunting In Connecticut, it was all lame surprises.

I have a whole brain bucket full of favorites, but I've always liked the Bruce Campbell trilogy.
Evil Dead
evil Dead 2
Army of Darkness

Not really scary, but classics.. :icon_biggrin:

Ya, wasn't really intrigued with it.. :dontknow:

A couple others I remember from the 80's

Silver Bullet
Lost Boys
American Werewolf in London

Rob Zombie's Halloween & Halloween II, awesome remakes.

Hostell I & II

The Exorcism of Emily Rose

For something that will throw you way off, the movie "Audition" was some kind of freaky. It's a Japanese horror movie that will give you chills towards the end.

Interview With a Vampire

Bram Stoker's Dracula

The Omen

Saw I, II, III, IV, V thru infinity,...............

The Hills Have Eyes

Alien I, I, III

All of the Hannibal Lector movies

Hard Candy

Just to name a few,..............
