how many of you have grover tuners on your strat?

there is an opinion (i found on the net) that grovers are suitable only for angled headstocks like gibson etc due to their design.

any truth to this?

String trees

not sure i understand.
CB meant that you need one or two string trees on the front side of the headstock.
They hold down the high strings and prevent them from slipping out of the nut slots.
(Grovers tuners are not staggered a la Schallers)

However, I don't think it's a must in every case.

I don't think there is any better or worse tuner for a guitar based on design.  The string trees are there for Schallers too.  The newer Schallers are graduated to avoid the need, but overall Grovers are fine.  What are you replacing?  Is the neck already drilled for tuners?  Are mounting holes already drilled?  The Schaller/Fender tuners are a PITA unless you are mounting in a real Fender neck.  Same with Sperzel.  I like them, but what is so hartd about doing the set-screw like Grover???  So much easier to install.
