Ground to a pot, ground to the bridge, does it matter?

Does it matter if you ground to a pot or the bridge (I've especially heard of people grounding to the bridge on teles), or to anywhere else?  Is there any benefit to grounding to one place over another?

Thanks!

you've got to do it both. put all the wires for ground on a back of the pot, and wire that back of the pot to the bridge. if you dont ground it by wiring it to the bridge, you get a very, very annoying hum which can't go away (the current needs a 'starting' point, and thats you). so, just wire it to the bridge. Don't be afraid of shocks. all the electric equipment and logistics have a safetyvalve so to say, which prohibits shocks.

well...thats here in the Netherlands. I dont know how it is across 'the big pond'.

Ah, ok, that make sense.  You bundle the ground wires together, then solder them to the back of the bridge.  Thanks!

Nice question, great answer. Been wondering the same thing myself. Getting into wiring, so I have all sorts of wiring Qs building up  :icon_thumright:

You don't HAVE to ground to a pot, it's just a convenient place to get all the wires together. But you do need to send a ground wire to the bridge.
