Green Korina Strat

Soooo.... when Warmoth had their sale, I got a Neck.  Then I got a body for the neck.* I had intended on saving up and getting a warmoth guitar in Fall 2010, but with the 20% sale, I had to bite.

Specifications:
Body: Chambered Korina strat Body, dyed green with DT green binding, HSH (originally SSS)  and routed for a Wilkinson Tremolo
Neck: Standard thin CBS Stratocaster Indian Rosewood Neck with Ebony Fretboard, Stainless steel frets and Earvana Black TUSQ XL nut.
Pickups: Seymour Duncan Phat Staples
Tuners: Sperzels
Bridge: Hipshot contour tremolo

Because I was disappointed with my own work in another guitar project, and because this body would need to be routed for the pickups, I decided to pay real and actual guitar techs put my guitar together. I took my guitar to SF Guitarworks, a small place up in San Francisco.  They weren't cheap, but they were good. Also, it took them a while because apparently, I wasn't the only one who brought them Warmoth products from the sale - that sale was a stimulus package to guitar techs everywhere apparently.

I got it Saturday, and I've been waiting for a sunny day to take good pictures of it.  Luckily, SF Guitarworks  put pictures of it on their blog.

They also took pictures of the inside from when they were wiring it up.  From this shot, you can kinda see why I had to have the pickup cavities routed deeper:

I'm hoping that we'll have some sun this weekend, and I can take more pictures of it.

My thoughts so far on the guitar:

*From what I'd read about rosewood and korina, I expected the guitar to have a warm, dark sound. But the Phat Staples are bright; and  I was surprised to find the bridge pickup to be a little bit twangy. It's different from my fender SSS strat, but more similar to that than to P90 pickups. And it's pretty loud, actually.

*I've only really used a vintage strat bridge, so perhaps my perspective is off, but the Hipshot bridge has been really smooth.

*The effect of the Earvana nut is subtle to the ear, to the point I'm not sure if I'm getting a placebo effect, but my digitech tuner says it's in tune, so that's all that matters. Same with the Stainless Steel frets, not a great change in sound (but in the long run, they'll last longer.)

(*And then, I went crazy and got another Neck and body, but that's another story.)

EDIT (5/22/2012) adding some outdoor body shots.  I actually took these two years ago and forgot to put them up on the forum. Now I remember that I wanted to re-do them because I wanted to get some better pictures.

Awesome strat! Dig the pickguard a ton, and of course the top-notch finish!

my mom always told me I wasn't allowed to watch porn, when I was a kid... I'm glad she don't know I saw this guitar! It's amazing!

It's different, and very interesting. I like it. What kind of pickguard is that? At first I thought it was a piece of rusted sheet metal, then a piece of plywood veneer, now I'm just not sure.

I see you got in on those Phat Staples, I wish I had.  How do they sound?
Louder than I thought. And a little bit twangier.  The samples that Seymour Duncan (the person) did sounded more jazzy than they do in my strat, I'm wondering if the difference has to do with the scale length (and of course the body he was using.)

I need to make samples of this, don't I?

It's a piece of rosewood, and it really matches the rosewood neck well. I'd been thinking about using just a black plastic pickguard (my GF thinks it would look cleaner, and accentuate the green) but again, it does match the neck pretty well.

I got it on ebay from this guy who does business under the name "Wood Guarden" at his website and "GVarko" on ebay.  What's cool is that this guy isn't just reselling them, he's making them himself. When I first got the pickguard, I noticed that it fit uncovered pickups, but not metal-covered ones. I emailed him and he offered to square off the pickup holes so they'd fit.

You're not kidding.  Imagine how many pickups, bridges, tuners, strings etc got bought as a direct result of this.  I only purchased one piece myself, but have handled five sale pieces.  Nothing exotic except for mine, but Warmoth nonetheless.

That thing reminds me of Kermit out on military maneuvers

MORE pictures please!~

I like it!~

Yes, more pics please!
I was eyeing that one during the sale, among a few other green ones, but this one was truly the nicest of them all.

I love Jungle Bursts, but that one in particular caught my eye when it was in the showcase.  It looks really cool with that pickguard and neck.  Excellent job!  :toothy12:

Jungle who now?

Great strat mate, def need tons of pictures, I really love how that green worked with the korina.  :icon_thumright:

Named it yet?

I've been playing it, hoping to come up with a name. But then, I don't have a name for my fender strat either, and I've had that for over a year.

Try Swamp Thang.

Swamp Thing FTW!  I love Swamp Thing, even though he scared the crap out of me when I was little.  The Alan Moore comics are pretty cool though.

I love the green Korina, but that pickguard is hideous, I don't like it at all, that's my cheap opinion, I think you should put a blue pearloid pickguard on it and that would make the whole guitar POP
