Gibson ranked as the worst place to work.

Wow, disgruntles employees, questionable wood sourcing, some really iffy product offerings, outrageous prices.

Buy hey, they have a GREAT website, that's what's important.

i've heard about this. apparently people can't count on having a job from one day to the next, people with suggestions have to watch their backs or find themselves fired, and they've been increasing prices instead of increasing quality lately. i love gibson, but this is the 3rd or 4th time i've heard about this. definitely looks like a real problem! would be so sad if in 20 years they weren't around any more. get it together, gibson! and if you go under send me something i can resell for $15,000 in 10 years.

I think this is the second time that poor morale at Gibson has been the subject on a Thread here. :icon_scratch:

And referring to the linked article I am surprised that an Airline got top billing as the best place to work, I know there's been a lot of layoffs in the airline industry since the GFC hit. Excellent work SouthWest!

You WOULD tend to think that working at a place like Gibson would be the bee's knees for many people, even if they are basically just doing simple manual assembly work or cleaning the floors. I mean so many beautiful looking guitars must go out the door each day, if you had an interest in them you'd be like a kid in a candy store watching them built on the line. Even with that sort of tradition and product interest they are still the worst? Their management practices must be trully shocking!

They were only the 5th worst large company to work for.... <smiles>.  Rain Bird (my former) was 7th worst.  Figures.  When you get a bossman who is absolutely a tyrant... that happens.  When the corporate culture is all about not getting the boss mad, when the boss must be the originator of all good ideas, when employees are not valued for their ingenuity and talent, but valued only as a commodity to achieve an end, then you got a real real problem.

Well, reports like this are certainly doing them out of me wanting to do business with them. I may be in a position to buy a custom guitar about mid 2010 or later, and I am very wary about plonking that much $$ down if the SOBs that run the place couldn't give a sh*t about their workforce.

I am, instead, thinking of talking to Australian manufacturer, Maton, about a custom acoustic guitar based upon their Messiah top line.
