I recently completed my Jazzmaster build, with a GFS Mean 90 in the neck and an Alnico Classic II in the bridge. After working out some noise issues (to be honest I have no idea how, the noise just went away), I have come to find that the Mean 90 in the neck is terrific. Very, very smooth, very, very rich - lots of tone. The Alnico in the bridge, however, is a bit "twangy" for my tastes. I am not sure if it is due to the PUP or the Hipshot hardball bridge, or a combination of the two. This is not to say it is not a nice PUP, it is. I just find it does not have that smooth sound of the Mean 90. If GFS gets them back in, I may try the Mean 90 in the bridge, too. That said, not sure why. As things are, I get the best of two worlds - Telecaster twang and Strat clarity.
