I am a total Jazz Bass whore, so the Gecko is kind of opposite of that, but i would love to see a 4 string Gecko bass...

Who here would agree?

That's pretty much what the G4 is. It's a Gecko inspired body that will fit the normal 4-string necks. There's really no point to a 35" scale 4 string.

I'll argue with that, If there can be 28, 24.75, 25, 25.5, and 24 in. guitars.... Why not?

Nope, the G4 is definatly not the same...

look at that awesome rear route cavity
Battery cavity. A little recess for a preamp. A little blade switch slot thing. Threaded inserts.

And the neck heel.
Diamond shaped heel. Deeper cutaway.

And the Gecko inlay.
I only like dot inlays on a bass, but its a cool option though.

I'm not saying it can't or even shouldn't be done, I'm saying there's not really much sonic benefit in extending an E string longer than 34" on a bass. Even Dingwall basses, which have a 37" B string on their 5's, use a 34" E for their Super J. From the Warmoth perspective, there's not much incentive to create a new instrument class for this, and I'm pretty sure that a 35" 4 will be custom luthier territory.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. I'm not saying that the G4 and Gecko are the same instrument at all; the Gecko is far superior in many ways. I'm just saying that the G4 is Warmoth's answer to requests for a 4-string Gecko, so they're not likely to answer it again.

Well, that seems like a pretty poor answer in that case...

In response to the 35" scale thing, they could make it 34" for a 4 string...
I dont see how that would be an issue.

Agreed, not the best answer. I think that retooling for a different scale involves new bridge, nut, and fret positions for CNC profiles. It's all doable, but Warmoth is a very busy production environment and they have a hard time keeping up let alone adding new profiles. Please understand that I'm not saying a 4-string bass with Gecko features is a bad idea. I think Warmoth figured that they could simply create a new body profile withing the confines of their existing 34" products to quickly solve the problem, even thought it's not really a Gecko. A lot of work would be involved in creating a Gecko 4, and they may get to it at some point, but only if swamped by demand.
