hello there. I am looking for ideas on what would look best with this. Right now I am leaning towards a Canary neck with Jet Black Ebony. I am also considering Bubinga and JB Ebony. I really think the neck should be of the lighter (in color) variety, but I Mos Def want the Raw/slick awesomeness that comes with the exotic no finish.

edit Goncalo Alves with the same Ebony is also on the short list

I'd definitely go with the canarywood/jet-black ebony.  You can request that they look for a blank with plenty of red streakage to go with that lovely body you bought, although you cannot do a unique choice with a neck-shaft.

My results are stellar:

Thanks!  The canarywood shaft really plays like a dream.  If you choose to go that route, you won't be disappointed.

I would do that, yes.  It may be there are no canary bass neck blanks in stock in which case you might have to wait.

If you're out of luck on the canary, roasted maple is nice, too, I hear, but I've never played it.

I've got examples of Canary, Bubinga and Aframosia necks here, all with jet black Ebony 'boards, and they're all similar enough that without putting them next to each other it's tough to say which is which. They all have similar grains and textures - the color varies slightly but is also comparable. They all burnish up  beautifully, and I'd recommend any of them.

But, with the recent availability of roasted Maple at Warmoth, I'm recommending and buying that more often than anything. It's relatively inexpensive compared to the more exotic species, and it feels fantastic. Doesn't need a finish and burnishes up like glass. Wonderful stuff. Highly recommended, and with an Ebony 'board would match up with that body perfectly.

Edit: Now that I look again, you could put a roasted Maple neck w/ a roasted Maple fretboard on a body that fancy and it would also look great. Nice contrast, since that body's sorta dark and fancy already. Plus, you'd save a bit more money as the black Ebony is rather dear.
