My "Budget '51" only got more expensive; Scarcely any of 'er remains since this recent body transplant.  The edge radius of the slab body made my plucking/picking hand fall asleep, thus the move to a body with contours and a softer 3/8" corner radius. A fretless ebony/maple J-bass neck (home-finished with Minwax satin poly) and three 51/54 pickguards later, she's finally ready for some pics and a post. -Love the oly-white w/mint pickguard! (-Thanks, W!)

Yep. This SD '51 QP pickup has such a unique tone under flat-wounds with a fretless neck. I put in a lower rated capacitor (-a twenty-two 'stead of a forty-seven) on the tone control; has almost a wah-like sweep and the entire range is full of useful tones! Also, I got the heaviest set of EB nickel flat-wounds on it that I could find, and have it tuned down a whole step. (-Band covers a few songs played in a low D... seemed like a good reason to build another one!)

-This one is lotsa fun!

-Thanks again, W!  :toothy10:
