Finish over waterslide on vintage tint

This is my first vintage tint nitro neck from Warmoth. What do you recommend for spraying over the waterslides? I have gloss clear and satin clear nitro on hand already from oxford supply. Would either of those lay over the vintage tint well, or would the difference be noticeable? I imagine just a few light coats of the clear gloss nitro, just to seal the decal should camouflage or blend in pretty well, but I want to be sure before I make a ton more work for myself with the wrong finish, or know ahead of time that I should spray the entire headstock. Is there a different or specific product you would recommend for sealing over the waterslides on the vintage tint?

If the picture is no good, I’ll try to repost. Got an error that the file was too large from my phone camera so I sent it to myself on outlook and reduced size. If it’s junk I’ll try and host on imgur or something. Appreciate y’all. Thanks!

I wouldnt bother with a finish. Fender didnt finish over water slides until well into the 60s.

There are so many unknowns about finishes that if you have to have a finish over the decal, I would tape off an do a test spray on the neck heel where any issues will be hidden.

If you have a scrap piece of the water slide, test spray on a piece of scrap wood. I’ve had water slide decals shrivel up with some clear rattle can sprays.

I’ve used Oxford over a handful of waterslides and it works well in general. Just unsure about the vintage tint existing on the neck already I guess. Wasn’t sure if the difference would be super noticeable where I put straight clear gloss or satin over the vintage tint just for the decals. Of course I could hit the whole neck with whatever I use over the decals.

Nitro over nitro should be safe, but clear dewaxed shellac such as Zinsser sanding sealer will make sure anything you spray over the top sticks. Oil, poly, enamel, acrylic, it don’t matter.

I actually like just straight up shellac under and over my water slide.

I kind of love shellac though.
