Morning boys, just thought I'd create this thread to try to put together some info on finishing supplies, and where to get them, in Oz. Quite apart from my current SG build, I have things bubbling away in the back of my head, but getting stuff to finish guitars seems like a bit of a hassle, because we don't have access to the range of supplies that our N. American brethren have. Therefore, I'm going to provide links that I know of to get stuff, so please feel free to add any that you know of. Or even suggestions about how to achieve a particular finish.

Tru-Oil: great stuff, and it's available very easily from a shop in Sydney called Magnum Sports, or online. They send through post, good people.

Guitar Aust has a pretty meager range of finishing supplies, but has a few of the Behlens Spray lacquer cans, plus other stuff such asTung oil, fillers, dyes, etc.

Aust Luthier's supplies has some other things, such as Shellac but I suspect you could do just as well at a decent hardware store.

Durobond in Brookvale, Sydney, sells guitar lacquer

Edit: Apparently Mirotone in Revesby also do a lacquer:

Ummmm, that's about all I know, go for your life.  I hope someone can post somewhere that can give us a range of dyes to choose from.

Good thread Cletus. I get most of my hardware through Aust Luthier's supplies. Everything else I usually source from hardware stores.

Do any other Aussies know of places where you can buy decent Aerosol spray cans for finishing? Our selections suck.

I've seen MinWax Wipe on Poly at Bunnings of all places......at one stage Minwax had a Melbourne distributor. Haven't been to Bunnings for a while now, so can't say it's still being stocked.
