Anybody use the EMG P90's? Are they basically just the 85 and 81's in a P90-sized housing?

I've seen it all.  Humbucker sized P-90s, now P-90 sized humbuckers.  I shouldn't be surprised.  Single-coil sized humbuckers, and humbucker sized single-coils have been around for years.

You don't like the stock p90s on the PRS? Maybe you just need a boost pedal, instead of EMGs on a basically vintage-type guitar. Or maybe the hum bothers you - Fralin sells hum canceling ones. Never tried them.

I like the stock pups a lot actually, they are a bit noisy though, but have great "bite" that I really like

Mmm, P90s can get noisy yes. I remember speaking to a guy at Fralin after I first installed mine last year. He said its just "the nature of the beast" and I agree for the most part. Check the wiring, perhaps there's some poor grounding inside, but it's very possible that the noise is just what you get....when you want awesome P90 tone! I have embraced it and it doesn't bother me too much as long as I am conscious about turning guitar volume down anytime I am not actively playing.

Bloody hell, why can't you just have pickups that are what they are supposed to be.

If you have a guitar with a permanent routing, you can put whatever you want in it, regardless of what it's routed for.
