Guitar maker and luthier Ed Roman — who has worked with a number of influential artists during his career, including Ted Nugent, George Lynch, Billy Gibbons, Keith Urban and Rick Derringer — has passed away. A posting on Ed's web site reads, "We understand that many people have questions regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing. His death, however, is still very recent, and is a heartbreaking shock to the family. We ask that you please be respectful of the sensitive nature involved with losing a loved one, and the mourning process that follows."

A more formal announcement from Lindsey Star Roman is forthcoming.

According to KissFAQ.com, Roman worked with original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley as far back as 1989, performing some modifications to one of Ace's Les Pauls. He also built a replica of Ace Frehley's Washburn AF 40 guitar. Roman once described Frehley as "probably the most influential guitarist in the history of the world."

I heard about this last week, but couldn't find a reputable source to confirm it. So it looks like it's true.

Although is is to bad of his passing, my condolences to his family, he was still somewhat of a prick..

But he did make some cool guitars, and as a craftsman, I can appreciate his talents..R.I.P.

Groundskeeper Willie is dead?  I do get a laugh at his "rants" on his site.  He did make some damn beautiful guitars though.

Same here, known for a few days but wasn't sure it was true. Very curious to see how the business will move forward without him.

Ed was a bit of a Tool. I agreed with some of his views, and disagreed with others, but in any case, I never wished death upon him. It was pretty obvious that his health was bad in the latest YouTube videos I saw of him.

Maybe they'll have a big sale s their prices will finally be sane.

I spoke to Ed a few months ago about buying 2 steinbergers & he was so abbrassive  & his prices so whacky that I went elsewhere.

Well .... thats the way life is sometimes.
You learn who they are, after there sadly gone
Whenever I see that guy's name, I always think of Ed Roth for some reason

Folks I'm going to lock this thread.  I know many of us have Ed stories and others have heard plenty of Ed stories.  I don't want that to overshadow more important things.

My condolences go out to the Roman family.  No one ever wants to lose a loved one.  Prayers/good thoughts/positive vibes go out to his family.
