Any forumites in the Durham, NC area capable of doing quality nut work? I'm soooo tempted to just get the files, but it's another tool and another delay - and then there's the casualties of education.

I don't know anyone in Durham, but Brian Haran of Fret Sounds in Graham is an excellent luthier, and his turnaround is usually super fast.

There are a few guys in Raleigh. There's Guru Guitars and Hanson and Crawford. There's also Harry's Guitar Shop. Send me a message sometime, and I can show you around!

I've used Harry's and whazis name that used to be out Yonkers 15 years ago. The latter may do ok work, but he was pricey and all of our interactions were less than pleasant. The former took a strat w/ 11's set up like a lap steel (I exaggerate, but I do like higher than average action, as I suspect most guys playing medium or heavy gauge strings) , and dropped the action as if it was EVH or Stanley Jordan's guitar.  But RTP is bigger than people think. Graham sounds like a better bet.

Check out Zion Guitars (If I remember right the guys name is Nick) in Raleigh.  There is a guy there that does excellent work  If you can not locate there shop, just go to the Guitar Center there, they send all their repair work to Zion Guitars.  They do charge a slight upcharge for handleing though.

After using them the first time, I just started taking my stuff directly to Zion.  Price was cheaper and turnaround was very quick.

I wasn't aware they were doing anything besides manufacture since they moved to Raleigh. Different people now, I knew them when it was owned by Ken Hoover in Greensboro. Thanks.
