ok folks I need an answer. Has anyone seen Don Rich's silver sparkle telecaster up close? And if so, does it have a three ply white pickguard, or a single ply?

I've been staring at photos and videos for the past hour and I can't tell. Sometimes it looks like a single ply and other times it looks like a three ply. I've watched, paused, and watched again the video of Brad Paisley playing Buckaroo on the thing at the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as grainy footage of Don playing it. I still don't know.

Anyone seen it up close in person?

What sprang to mind might be to ask Zac, and sure enough he has been close to it. Perhaps contact him he may know.

If you're not in a hurry I will be heading to LA sometime in the near future and I can swing by the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield and check it out for you.

Hey Tonar! Good to hear from you. I'm not in much of a hurry. I only just placed my order with W (including neck with matching headstock) and I'm sure it will take them several weeks or more.

Holy crap! This just got real - Warmoth just sent me a shipping notice for this thing!

I guess I'm gonna have to decide on a pickguard now...

My guess is single ply for the pickguard but the black line on the three ply would look good too. Sparkly! 👍

That looks like some dusty routing! Nice clean cuts. What’s the process? Drop down router with a template or are you using a CNC? Well done so far! 🤘👏

A router with a big template. You don't need a plunge router because you drill a 15/16" hole through the body where the pull tower goes before you route. The template is home made, but I hear you can buy them now.

Thanks!

Been playing this thing for awhile now and I gotta say for a slab of wood that's covered in metallic poly, not to mention a big hole routed out the back, it's amazingly resonant!
