Direct mounting pickups to the guitar body

I've got most of this figured out, the foam, the springs, etc.  What I am having a hard time finding are the screws.  I gather they are either #2 for humbuckers or #3 for single coils.  But it seems they need to be about an inch long, which is where I am falling flat in my search.  I found the bass pickup mounting screws at Stew Mac.  They come in black, but are 1 3/8" long, or the neck pickup mounting screws for a Tele, but they only come in silver.  I was hoping for black.  I suppose I could paint the tops black.

Does anyone have a good source for these hard-to-find screws?

I use humbucker pickup mounting ring screws. They work great and don't mess up the threaded base plate either.

Take a screw that looks close and run up to ACO or some such hardware store that has a big selection of screws have a look around. Even if you have to buy several different sizes, individual screws are super-cheap.

For humbuckers you can use Ibanez direct mount screws, 2SCREW0015-B. You can get those from Ibanezrules.com

Those will not mess up the threads. Pricey but they work.

Thank you!

No problemo

Generally I find that you can find a really wide variety of screws on eBay as well.  And that guy Rich who runs that site is a really well respected guy in the Ibanez community, despite his 1995 website.

Same here, pre-drill, light tension on the bottom with some foam, done.

Nice thing is, if you ever want to swap out the pickups, the threads aren't compromised.  You'll still be able to mount them with rings on another project or in trade.
