Dimarzio

Dimarzio breed neck, air zone bridge. One piece mahogany body, maple top. One piece flame maple neck, floyd rose. Opinions...

Not to put you off, but you'll have to put it together to find out.

Building a guitar is a little like breeding animals. Knowing the pedigree of the parents gives you a reasonable idea of what to expect from the offspring, but nothing is etched in stone. There are too many variables.

Ha ha, too late to put me off I'm afraid!! My first build is almost complete! I'm just really looking forward to trying out the end result. This configuration is what the dimarzio pickup picker suggested. Was just looking to see if anyone out there had tried it before
Now if only I can figure out how to put a picture up...

I think it looks great! If it's wired, some tuners and strings and a setup should make it ready to go.

It has taken your guy 4 months and counting to assemble this, and you're paying him? That's not right. It takes about 2 hours to assemble the guitar and another 2 hours (maybe) to do a very awesome setup job, assuming all the right tools.
But it looks lovely!

Looks like the guy finished it as well. Still, that sounds awfully fast. I can eat up the best part of day just on the frets. Of course, I take frequent breaks, and I'm also busy with other things. For instance, all that internet porn won't download itself.

I know, terrible pics, iPad camera isn't the best. Proper pics once its complete. It's taken so long cause he's a pretty busy tech and sometime giging musicians take priority for his time which I can understand. He's kinda going back and forth to it when he has spare time, luckily he's not charging by the hour and I don't mind waiting if the jobs done properly

Speaking from personal experience, sometimes you get pissed and have to walk away from the thing for a while lest you do something hasty and/or stupid. Messing up your own guitar is one thing, but you never want to do it to someone else's. Then, sometimes things happen that mean you have to take it off the bench and put it away while you wait for parts or time, which in itself is time-consuming while you do that and then get set back up again for it. I have a guitar here now that's been fighting with me for several months now and it's only with the grace of God that I haven't smashed the bloody thing.

Cagey, thanx for your understanding.
For a guitar tech working in Scotland, I'm guessing it's not very often to get a chance to work with a project such as mine so I'm glad he's taking his time, doing set ups every day must get a bit commen and I think he's enjoying himself. I'm just envious I'm not experienced enough to do the work myself!
Good things come to those who wait...

I'd tell him to hurry his arse up. Doesn't take four months to build a guitar unless you're starting with a tree and some scrap metal.

+100

If time is no big deal, then it's no big deal.  4 months seems a bit lengthy, but Tfarny's time frame of 2 hours to assemble and 2 hours to set up seems rushed.  I spent 40+ hours on my last build and the setup is ongoing.  I think I spent 2 hours just looking at one tuner.

I'm saying, if someone is a pro tech, 2 hours is plenty of time to bolt it up and do the soldering. Same with a setup - get the truss rod right, get the nut right, get the action right, let it sit a couple of days, then fine tune a hair. Fretwork, ok sure, add another couple of hours. But not more, if someone does it for a living.
