Finally finished this thing!

Recap:
Bought the body off Ebay in April.  It is solid Padauk with 2 Limba (White Korina) "stripes".  After lots of sanding (my garage looked like a paprika factory) it looked like this.  Notice the body and the neck are the same color.

The neck is a Warmoth standard thin, Padauk, 10-16" radius, with stainless steel frets.

I did not do any sort of grain filler at all.  Just 26 thin coats of Tru oil.  You can see the open gain in this picture.  The 2 "dots" are not smudges in the finish.  They are the reflection of the speakers in my ceiling.

Here it is, all complete with Bare Knuckle Piledrivers.  With the Tru-oil, it turned a beautiful maroon color.  I left the neck raw.

Of course the guitar isn't complete unless it has a cool strap as well

Neck plate.  Kind of cheesy, but I think it works.

I understand now how people with an all maple body guitar says that it really brings out the low end.  It must be the high density of the wood.  I hit an open E and you can just feel the body resonating like mad.

The BKP Piledrivers - Wow!  Can easily be used for some Pantera.  IMHO it sounds best with a tube screamer, just smooth.

Any guesses on the final weight of this beast?

very nicely done
and I love the neck plate, fits it well
congrats on a nice tele

THe strap makes it 100% WIN!

I'd have gone with a filled grain, but that's obviously a matter of personal taste.  I like the overall look for sure.

Peace

Bagman

Thanks guys.  This damn thing weighs 11.5 pounds.  That's LP territory.

Now I can work on finishing my zebra tele.

everything's purdy, down to the American-made, vegan strap. Good choice!

personally, I don't like the way single coils look body-mounted with all that space. but i don't know if that's just me or if people do it for lack of a better option.

Hey that looks great!
Can´t beat an oil finish on beautyful woods.
I´m curious to try out the Piledrivers myself for an upcoming build.

As much as I love that strap, it almost needs to be a little wider and padded to go with that almost 12 pound beast.

My favorite comments on it are "How did you dye the wood like that?"

Wow Wow Wow :blob7: that turned out absolutely gorgeous  :icon_thumright:
Love every single bit of it  :hello2:
Can see Dougies great work continues on & on & on & on too.

Damm you guys ...... Now I want to build a Tele, oh well may-be sometime next year now ......
Well I don't have a Tele, so I have a great excuse to do one  :icon_biggrin:

We should meet up and take a good "cousins" photo..

Mine is more Pau Ferro than the Padauk, but they look like they might have a distant uncle together..  :icon_jokercolor:

Both woods similar in tone.  I love playing mine acoustically.  It just snaps it's so bright.
