Cypress?

Evidently it's used for classical backs and sides, but I can't seem to find anything about it related to electric instruments.

hard to go wrong on a body for an electric, the body isn't that resonant, the neck and fingerboard make up much of the tone. if it is used on musical instruments i'll bet it will sound just fine

This was made from cypress, similar to spruce and cedar. very resonant
big grain soft easy to work with , hard to grain fill.

Depends on what kind of cypress it is.

If we're talking USA cypress, that wood is ... difficult to use for a solid body guitar.  Its prone to cracking, not all that hard, very coarse.  Its more like a version of cedar than anything.  Its also tends to be an allergen when working it.

When I worked cypress from logs, back in the day, especially on the big resaw, we'd get water spraying all over the place from the logs.  It holds water like crazy, then when it does dry, it splits.  It also gave me an INSTANT migraine.  We'd be doing cypress and I'd just dread it.  I did the work, but suffered through it - this was the days before Advil.

Mine was from a local forest/mill here in florida, not wet at all, will split when it dries, +1 on the soft and +1 on the feeling if you get it in your lungs even worse if it gets in your eye.

hey CB we should get together and hang out.. where are you in florida, I'm in G-ville and Daytona..

This is what you get with Cypress for a guitar body!!

this guy uses all sorts of unusual (texan) woods... would be interesting if the shapes were so uhm... basic.
