Oi, wrapping up my last couple months of ebaying, figure I'd post some pics so as to reassure everyone I actually do put guitars together, not just prattle on about how everyone else isn't putting theirs together right...

First, a fretless chambered Jazz Bass, Specs:
-Quilt maple over chambered swamp ash
-Tequila burst top, candy tangerine burstover/back
-Kent Armstrong Lipstick for Jazz Bass pickups (Not visible- push/pull on neck volume for series/parallel, Sprague overpriced orange cap)
-Hipshot A-style bridge (Aluminum), HB-1 tuners, string retainer and o-ring knobs
-Neck- Seller said it is padouk/pau ferro, but it looks suspiciously like Goncalo/Ebony. Either way, it's smooth as glass and a joy to play
-Fender light gauge flatwounds (45-100)

Not sure if I want to put a pickguard on it or just live with the screw holes (a control plate is out of the question unless I seriously countersink the controls).

Then, a Fender/Halfmoth, I believe the only original bits from the MIM Fender are the body, strap pins, neck plate, and knobs...

-MIM Fender Stratocaster body
-(probably) Alder, metallic sunburst, H-S-H route
-Duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker set, DiMarzio Super Switch (annoyingly I've forgotten the "middle" positions  :tard:)
-Fender white pearloid pickguard
-Boogie Rail bridge plate
-Warmoth Pro Strat neck- goncalo/pau ferro, 6100 (gah) frets, Schaller locking tuners

This one's more or less finished, though I may swap out the Boogie Rail for a more permanent solution...

Needs a clear pickguard and a three-string retainer.

I'm seriously leaning towards the clear pickguard. It's the only choice that wouldn't distract from the finish, I think, although black pearloid is tempting. May get a new 'guard for the T-40 while I'm at it if I go through Pickguardheaven...

I love the metallic sunburst. Very cool take on a classic finish.

Obviously enough, it's the whole reason I bought the guitar. Once in a while GC/Sam Ash can turn up something worthwhile with their commissioned runs like this, and the Pellham Blue Epi Dot I got in January.

Finally, a quick shot of my second go at finishing my G4, I think I'm going straight tung oil this time.
And a gratuitous shot of my Mal Daisy stealing the frame...

American Black Walnut with light curl figure?
Walnut is a wonderful wood.

I think your Strat is related to mine. (Second cousins perhaps)
MIM body, output jack & strap buttons are the only original bits. Boogie Rail bridge, Schaller lockers, pearloid pickguard.
My body was routed SSH (94 MIM).

Whoa, that walnut is sexy!!!
Yeah, what he said!!  :headbang1:

The other 2 are really nice as well. That metallic sunburst looks very interesting!  :icon_thumright:

But, I do wish you would show us the back sides of those Goncalo necks, too!!  :o

Not close-up of the necks, but...

On a practicality note, can anyone remark as to how many coats of tung oil is "enough?" I'm about five coats in, and it's hard to say if any more is sticking or if it's all just getting removed in the rub-down phase

Thanks! Those are both really nice! The more I look at that metallic burst, the better I like it!! :guitarplayer2:

-Fender light gauge flatwounds (45-100)

These strings are a gruesome amount of fun, in a poundhappy punk sort of way. I got so used to my refined, civilized D'Addario Chromes I was re-amazed by how cool it is to sound nasty on bass. The good nasty. It may be a mid-life crisis. I have some RotoSounds up next....

Thanks, I'm really pleased how they both turned out, considering all the Warmoth parts were second-hand. That Strat actually beat out a used custom shop Sienna Burst hardtail I originally went in to buy, I guess I saw some potential beyond the muddy pickups  :headbang1:

I know what you mean; between the strings, the pickups, and the higher-than-I-usually-like action, this thing gets some nasty, greasy, mid-60's growl out of it. Makes me think I should definitely re-wire the G4 in passive...
