Concerning Strat Tremolo routs

I'm sure this has been covered in depth, but
i haven't been able to find any particular information on this,

if  a strat (actual Fender Strat) has the standard tremolo routing, are there any holes that need to be drilled differently to install the vintage hardtail bridge that warmoth offers?  I'm aware that there will be a hole from the tremolo routing that won't be covered by the bridge. but i may have plans for that...

i would like a bridge that strings through the bottom, do the string ends just anchor to the back of the bridge? or do i need ferrules of some sort?

thanks for the help everyone, i'm excited to get this going..

The holes that hold the flat mount bridge on the body would normally anchor themselves in the wood that was removed for the tremolo routing.  The strings on the hard tail anchor to ferules seated in the body and not the bridge itself, not unlike a Tele.  Look at the backs of Strat bodies in the showcase that have the hardtail routing.

Don't do it, it won't work. Check this product out though: http://www.customshopparts.com/bridges/drop-top-bridge.html It will actually convert you to a hardtail from a Fender trem setup, and cover up the 'hole' too. I did it at one point, and it worked well.

I think this could do the trick  :dontknow:

i did look at that, i thought about it ..a good friend of mine had a bad experience with one of those on his strat though...i played it, the thing buzzed everywhere, when he put the trem back on it was fine....but that fill block on the hipshot website actually might be what i need...

what's everyone's opinions on this?

If not properly installed it will rattle too. And anything loose directly under or attached to the bridge will echo through the pickups too. That's a problem with the Fender tremolo units OEM on Jazzmaster, Jaguars and Mustangs.

And if you need to glue the block in, it would be very hard to pull it out if you wanted to go back to a tremolo.

Mine worked really well. I installed it on a complete beater chinese squier. Best option is a new Warmoth hardtail strat body, no doubt.

So in other words, once you go block you never go back?

Not sure on this latest block. I've seen a similar thing done to a Strat and the guitar stayed a hardtail. I did say 'if', btw. :dontknow:

Maybe you could screw it in? Whichever way it is installed, you wanna make sure it stays put.

i've made my decision, i'm buying the hipshot block, and i'm gonna screw it into the body of my guitar
and i'm gonna use the Schaller flat mount bridge, because the strings anchor in the back of the bridge not through the body.

i don't have a concern about going back to a tremolo, so i think as long as i install it securely there's no reason it shouldn't work just fine,

besides, it'll certainly be an interesting test...i may stumble upon something cool here  :icon_thumright:
