Hey guys. I have a body here, Mahogany with a Zebrawood top. I've been wanting to finish this in a stain, dye or colored topcoat. I can't find many pictures of colored Zebrawood. Anybody tried this here?
I don't remember if any forum members have posted them, but there have been some Zebrawood tops dyed red and dyed green in the showcase.
They look quite nice in my opinion...
:rock-on:
Here is a pic of a red zebra body that I had stashed away...
And I think DMRACO has a nice zebra strat with a slight red tint to it that he finished himself. I think it is his...
So, build one and post some pics!
Edit:
Here is a photochop by Autobat of the green LP from the show case some time back...
I have a zebra on Korina with a maple neck. I used Minwax stain that I diluted to different concentrations to make all the wood the same color tone. Since the maple does not take the stain as good as zebra which does not take it as good a korina, this was necessary. I think the color I started with was RED Mahogany.
Zebra will also take dyes well.
However if you are going with a non-burst color (red, blue, etc) your best bet is to tint the clear and apply.
Its not dyed but thought id link you to my build. I've put on a z poxy to grain fill and it gives it an amber tint. Just thought you might fancy a look.
Thanks guys. Yeah this all helps a bunch. The info I've been getting is to tint the clear. I guess I'll give it a shot and post some pics for the next guy who is in doubt. If it turns out well that is... Thanks again...
