Saw this top at the site, looked at a number of finishes and while it's really striking in black wash - I don't like idea of covering up the back in black. I actually think I like the clear look on this gorgeous piece of wood.  I'm just worried it'll look "plain" in real life. (Mostly I'm just jabbering about a cool top I found)

Any opinions on finishing this one?

The clear and the black stain both look great! Cherry burst has been done to death, and you don't have to do the back black if you don't want to.

Personally I'd consider a green or purple dye to really make that top look groovy.

not into purple. but the green and blue both look striking. I know it's just a rendering, not an actual photo, but many of the dyes tend to get so dark that the edges turn into a black mass, like a sunburst almost.  I love the almost snakeskin made of wood grain/figure rather than actual hokey snakeskin effect the black wash gives, but I thought it looked funky with a  clear back.

I think the washed black with a clear back would look sweet, nice contrast.... :icon_thumright:

Hmm - when I tried that on a Tele body the only binding choices I had were clear and vintage tint.
