A long time ago, I had a Fender Strat that came with a hardshell case, probably SBK, or something like it, when I bought it used. Well, I also used to have a very ornery old cat. So one day the cat pissed in the case (good thing for the cat that the guitar was not in it). I found the evidence quickly, and I proceeded to pull out all of the fuzzy lining, thinking that I could just replace that, but nooooooooo cat piss has a way of lingering. Sooo, I pulled out the formed foam, and was left with just the hard shell of the case. I went to a local foam distributer and was able to talk my way into walking out with a free piece of scrap foam of the approximate density of what had been in the case. I used an e-xacto knife to cut out the shape of the guitar. Next I went to a fabric store and bought some black fuzzy material by the yard for a couple bucks. Some spray adhesive, and some extreme patience on my part to get the fabric to fit into the curves and crevices, and voila! A rebuilt guitar case, sans cat pee. Not really building a case, but a funny story nontheless.
