OK, as I am looking to jump start the VIP build, looking for your thoughts on a neck. Only raw woods here. Listed are neck/fingerboard choices I am thinking of.

The VIP is chambered mahogany (pic below).
The build so far looks like:
SD P-Rails
Wilkinson Trem
TonePro tuners

This build needs to achieve a number of tones from clean to heavy distorion (no metal). Most of the time will be spent on clean and mild OD (picture a cranked AC30). I really think I will spend a good portion of the time on the P90 setting of the P-Rails.

My biggest concern is ending up with something sound too dark and/or middy.

So here are the neck choices. While we are at it, might as well include thoughts on looks for your choice (the HW will be gold and cream).
If this build meets the needs, it will be gigged live 2X a week, every week of the month (unless I am on vacation).

FYI - I really like the Canary/Canary neck on my Strat.

Oh and by the way, has anyone ACTUALLY used the triple shot rings?

Here's the pic of the VIP

they are all good choices...
I have a wenge/ebony, which I like a lot!
Luke has a canary/ebony and a boobinga/ebony, and they are both great too

I haven't tried pau ferro, but that is the next on the list for me!

i've got a canary/canary neck o a tele.

it's great through a wound out ac30  :headbang:

I think it will be an awesome guitar with any of your choices, but I voted for wenge/ebony because It has a fantastic sound, look, and feel. A wenge neck and mahogany body always seems to be a winning combo. Nice looking VIP, by the way!

I have a wenge/ebony with P-90's and its got plenty of high end.  I can't imagine that any of your neck choices would make for a dark sound though.  I love canary too, but I think a darker wood would look better.

IMHO Wenge/ebony and MOP dots (or side dots only) would look killer on that body.

I've got canary / ebony on my tele.  Looks good / plays well / sound is bright without being 'icepick in the ear'. Should go well with mahogany.

I don't like ebony looks, too black for me and of all the necks I have I prefer the feel of Goncalo... So Goncalo Alves + Goncalo Alves/Kingwood/Ziricote/Brazilian Rosewood/Pau Ferro. If you can afford a unique choice fingerboard option I would go with a flashy one!

It won't end up too dark or middy. You have pickups, pots, capacitors and amp settings to create your sound.

Thanks everyone. There will be dots or traps (leaning towards dots) on this. Oddly, what I am leaning towards is in last. LOL
