It's back from the luthier and absolutely plays like a dream.  This is a recreation of Billy Corgan's signature strat.  The goal was to capture all the key sonic elements that makes his strat unique (solid alder body, DiMarzio pickups, hardtail bridge) and combine it with the Warmoth quality and wood choices I couldn't get from Fender.

Body: AAA Flame maple top on solid alder strat body.  Fender USA standard hardtail.  Dyed brown top, transparent brown back
Neck: AAA Flame maple back and fretboard, CBS fender headstock, 1 5/8" nut width, 10"-16" fingerboard, wizard profile, satin clear finish, schaller locking tuners
Pickups: BC-1, Chopper, BC-2, black pick guard, black pickup and switch covers

Yours looks great.  Love the flamed headstock and the aged white pickup covers.  Where'd you get those from?

Lovely guitar!
all these replicas happening make me want to do a replica of the aria cliff burton used.... and heres me not going to get a fourth guitar! hehe... though do need a replacement for my epiphone and a black one with soapbars would do just fine.

Do you have any good pics of the cliff burton aria?

Well i know of a few videos with him using it, and somewhere i tracked down the actual name of the one he used, infact found one on ebay a while back, not one he used, but the same type, they seem almost extinct now though, with a new version sold by aria.
Ill try dig one up now

Heres some, i found a site with the exact specifications of the one on the wall, which i believe is the proper version cliff used, and it used a mb II dual coil pick up with volume tone and sound switch.
and alder body, rosewood fingerboard, maple and mahogany neck through body.
Not so sure a tribute bass would be a good idea. for one thing i could never do it justice even if i got as good parts as i could for it.
But something funky i just realised the body of the aria is a kinda cross of the Z body sold by warmoth and the p bass/strat shape.
So im kinda partly have a bit of a tribute shape wise at the moment

What is so special about the Fender Billy Corgan Strat anyway. It seems like a hard tail highway one with some DiMarzios.

Outside of this forum, you don't see nearly as many hardtails.  However, I agree that the hardtail + DiMarzios combo isn't magical, but it does sound good to me.  I was a huge Pumpkins fan in high school and college (yes, I'm old) so the sound from Gish and Siamese Dream has a special place in my heart.

I dig the pumpkins too. I was just meaning for the price that fender charges for them that's all. Your guitar is great BTW :eek:ccasion14:

I think Corgan did all or most of the guitar work on the albums, as well as the bass.

If and when I do a Strat, I may go this direction.  I'm familiar with the Smashing Pumps, but they'd hardly be one of my influences.  A hardtail with single coil sized hums, how could I go wrong?  No 70s porno headstock for me though.

Yeah, I think by Mellon Collie, James played on the album most of the parts he'd play live, but I'd also heard that Billy played just about everything but the drums on Gish.

Did Billy lose his hair before or after he had sex with Courtney Love??????

I don't know but I bet mid act, he thought, "Wow, I'm doing to you what your husband did to my first album's potential."

Nah, Billy hit it and quit it before Courtney and Kurt got together. In fact, legend has it they met the night Billy kicked Courtney out of his apartment.

According to Courtney, they never got together I thought... she just came into town hoping to and he had neglected to mention that he had a steady gf, so she hooked up with Kurt out of spite sorta.

That's a beautiful guitar. I can't imagine it sounds very good with those Billy Corgan pickups though.      :icon_scratch:
