guys sorry if i'm repeating similar threads. just that i am trying to figure out an ideal versatile combination for a new tele that i'm planning.  :help:

i mainly play bluesbreakers, cream, hendrix, peter green etc - but sometimes also throw in some rock n roll kinda numbers from sabbath, purple, zep, floyd etc (like nib, strange kinda woman, celebration day, have a cigar etc).

HSH with coil splits, I think. For Zep, you might just need a tele for some parts, though

One of the sweetest blues-rock tones ever is the neck-middle combination in a Strat. If you are doing blues with a 3-pickup guitar, you need that. Then probably a humbucker bridge, what the heck.

For Hendrix, you need the neck-middle single-coil sound. For Floyd, you need singles and a hot bridge... you can get away with a humbucker bridge then. For Bluesbreakers and Cream, well, Clapton was mostly playing 335's at that point, right? But he plays Strats pretty much exclusively for the last 3 decades or so (even when he plays one of those older tunes), so you can justify single coils. Of course for Sabbath and such, you'd use the humbucker bridge.

So I think it stacks up that you must go HSS!

Clapton uses a mid boost to get those sc's to sound more like humbuckers.
