I’m ready to move forward on this bass but I have a question about a neck for it.

Can I order a neck like this off the Showcase and re-profile the headstock to match a 54 P-Bass and not have any problems with scale length and neck pocket fit?  Ok bass guys help me out here.

There IS a mild, thin coat of sanding sealer on the Warmoths, so if you're going to finish a re-shaped, already-sealed neck it's a good idea to sand off all the finish everywhere, so all your wood is equally, equidistantly raw*. If Warmoth cuts you a special head, you could ask about either not finishing it or re-sealing their new cut, I guess. (?)

*(yes I know how that sounds, and it was.... oh grullllphhphph)

it may be a surprise to many guitarists, but the original Precision bass did indeed have a Tele headstock. Warmoth offers this as a standard headstock option

the major difference between a W Tele headstock neck and the original Fender is the heel - all W bass necks have a radiused butt, whereas the original Fenders used a squared butt with filleted corners

IIRC I have seen these in the Showcase on occasion

all the best,

I should have mentioned that I know they exist - I have one on my Thinline bass. But seeing one in the showcas is a rare occasion indeed. One that calls for whipping out the Drambuie. And then the wallet...

ahhhh! sorry, I didn't catch that

yes Drambuie and the wallet ... but flip out the wallet first so you don't celebrate with a few too many Drambuie 'samples' and miss-out on the neck

all the best,

R

I pulled the trigger on the neck I put on the original post.  Thank you again for the information Wyliee and all the great complements from the rest of you.  I appreciate the kind words.

Fernando this guitar has a strange effect on bass players. Every one of them that has seen it immediately tells me when their birthday is.  :icon_scratch:  :laughing11:

Here is the back of the neck; I’ll post pictures when it shows up with the new headstock cut to a Tele profile.
