Bass neck templates?

I'm in the process of building a bass body for my brother, and he's going to order the neck from warmoth. Any idea where I can get a template that will match their necks? I emailed them and 'spike' said just by the neck and copy that. Problem is we don't have the money for the neck at the moment and want to proceed with the build while the money is saved.

The specs are freely available on the site: http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Options/BassNeckPocket.aspx
It's the 'standard' for Precision & Jazz bass necks. (assuming that's the style you're after (you didn't specify)).

Warmoth follows the Fender standard, so this template should work...

Just be aware that they're slightly oversized. You can compensate by wrapping your pattern-following bit's bearing with a bit of tape, but it needs to be a high-tack tape so it doesn't go flying off as soon as you start the router.

If that's too scary, then there are others. This one, for instance, claims to be accurate.  I have no experience with the supplier, so I can't speak to their claims.

Or, just Google "fender bass neck pocket template". It'll return over 1.2 million results. I'll leave those as an exercise for you to review.

Or you could use the template the way StewMac think you should ...

That does make more sense.

I have that template, but I've only used it as a platform for the router to ride on rather than a guide. The pocket had already been routed - I just needed to lower the floor. The bit I have for doing that is already short enough that the bearing rides the inside walls of the pocket, so no template is necessary.
