what is the best wood to get a deep, round and warm sound ? mahogany, black/white korina, Koa, Makore ? Thnks in advance for your advises.

First off, welcome to the 'boards!  :eek:ccasion14: -There's a lot of knowledgeable folks here (and a few goof-balls like myself), and always plenty of advice!

My experience is a bit limited, but out of the basses I have put together and played, I have to say that Alder gets warm enough for my taste. I have swamp ash basses, and the solid one can be fairly bright (-the tone knob gets a lot of use on that one!), but even the chambered ash is on the rounder or fatter end, so...

I've wondered about building one outa 'hog, but since I play in a 3-piece, I gotta have a bit of brightness (-so's to stand on my own when the front-man takes off on his gee-tar to Sololand), so I can't get the pluck to try anything darker.

Alder or Mahogany will work nicely .  Koa is very bright.

my latest bass (  see avatar)  used lacewood/claro walnut/ redwood burl  and provides a wonderful full range acoustically , it is chambered as well.

Yeah, I gotta say that it seems that the most influential aspect is solid vs chambered.
