Hello all,

I've been entertained and inspired so many times by the material that you guys put up here, I reckon it's high time I started putting something back in.

This is the first pass through of an arrangement of Autumn Leaves that I've been working on for a while. There will be more to it as more of it comes together. I actually recorded this simply for the purpose of listening to and analyzing it myself, but I was pretty happy with it so I'm putting it out there.

Edit 3/12/2017 - The link is the same, but I have replaced the track with what I am considering to be the "fully realized" version of this arrangement. My initial approach was an arrangement for two guitars (one of which was to be my Warmoth Jazzmaster, which would have increased the Warmothyness of the track...), bass and brushed drums. I worked that for a while but everything kept ending up... lame. Hokey. I didn't like it. I went back to my roots and approached it as an arrangement for one guitar and I'm quite happy with how it came together in that fashion.

I'm playing my Les Paul Traditional Pro with Lollar P-90s into the Helix model of a 1930-something Gibson EH-185 amplifier.

Enjoy!

Sounds mighty nice, but I just bet it would be that much better played on your (or your dad's) Jazzmaster. :)

Thanks for the kind words!

Funny you should mention, I can attest it does sound quite nice on the Jazzmaster! I had been playing it on her in fact but I just recently installed those Lollar P-90s in the Paul so there is a bit of an infatuation going there right now...

I'm also working on Wes Montgomery's arrangement of "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" and I've been playing that one on the Jazzmaster, dark circuit with both pickups. Quite tasty! So fear not, she is still being well loved  :icon_biggrin:

Bravo. Sounds lovely! :eek:ccasion14:

Looking forward to more sound clips and playing from you.

Love that tone. Sounds really vintage and warm.

Thanks! That's just what I was after with the P-90s into the EH-185, I'm quite pleased with it!

Thank you! Time for guitars is at a bit more of a premium of late with a new baby in the house, so I'm trying to be more productive with the time I have. Less noodling and more practicing, haha! I intend to keep recording and I look forward to sharing.

Sounds good and sort of seasonal for this time of year  :icon_thumright:

It is a bit seasonal, isn't it? We moved from Alaska to southern Arizona a few years ago and, while I don't miss the winters much, I sure do miss the colors of autumn.

Yes Autumn, is one of my favourite seasons. Where I am  I am seeing loads of colours with the trees and so on. I've got a few acorns, horse chestnuts and leaves I've picked up arranged in a glass bowl at the moment. I will see if I can get a few pics when I am out for a walk tomorrow when its light.

I took a drive up to higher elevations yesterday, Madera Canyon just outside Tucson. 20 degrees cooler and a good bit more colorful with cottonwood and sycamore on display. Fine way to spend a day.

Nicely done, brother.

Thank you!

One day I'll go see Northern Hemisphere trees during autumn, we got nothing like that in my region in Australia.

Let me know if you get to Sweden. I could show you around.

How did I miss this?  This is tasty!  I have been wanting to learn this style for a while.  You might have motivated me to get off my tuchis.

Thanks! I've been working a lot on this arrangement recently and have developed it quite a bit, extending it into two more choruses and exploring some different ideas. There were a couple of sections giving me a bad time but they magically came together over the last few days and I've got something I really like. I'm planning to get it recorded when I get back home in another week and a half or so. I will definitely get it posted when I do. Should you choose to follow some jazzy pursuits, I've no doubt good things will come of it. I'll look forward to hearing!

I have updated the link in the OP with the new and improved "fully realized" version of this arrangement. Getting it recorded was a bear due to my red-button-itis (when I click the red "record" button I forget how to play guitar...), but ultimately I'm happy with the results. The link is the same, but I have replaced the track. My initial approach in fleshing this out was an arrangement for two guitars (one of which was to be my Warmoth Jazzmaster, which would have increased the Warmothyness of the track...), bass and brushed drums. I can save you a click:

Lovely! Beautiful playing. :icon_thumright:

And "red-button-itis"! :toothy12:
I definitely think many musicians suffer from that.

Thanks!

And glad to know it's not just me, haha! Three hours of recording for 3 minutes of audio? Sounds about right  :laughing7:
