Accidentally bought a mahogany body.  I put in a minimum bid and ended up being the only bidder.  Darn.  I might as well go ahead and build

Got the Control Plate today.  The bridge is on order.  I have a pair of Goncalo Alves wood knobs for it, they're at home.  Other bits on the way....

Do I do the usual Tung Oil wipedown, or do I do a clear red like SGs are popular for.  That'd match the Cocobolo Pickups if done right.

How is that body?  I've been keeping an eye on Mattswodworking for a few months now.  I really like the P90 walnut tele he has now.  What bridge are you going with?

So far it looks right.  The neck is a little tight, but the neck I'm planning on using is a Karosa, it will merely be a place holder until I can save the cash for a Warmoth neck.  So we'll see how that one progresses.

So far I'm please.

I'd do the red if it was me, but that's just me. Mahogany is usually pretty attractive no matter what you do to it.

FWIW, I bought a Karosa neck and it was very poorly made.  Nut was cut wrong, the fretboard had issues and it was clear that it was handmade (and in this case, that was not a positive).  Caveat emptor

Very nice  - can't wait to see the finished guitar

I was looking at this site the other day with mostly wood Strats and Teles, though they only have small pics

I know all too well.  I recently replaced the necks on my thinlines with Warmoth necks.  They were Karosa necks before and took way too much work to get playable.  I went so far as to replace the truss rod in one.http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=14635.0

The Karosa neck, the one I replaced the truss rod in, will serve as just a place-holder until I get enough money for a Warmoth neck.

Upon further inspection, you'll see that Woody Woodcasters uses Karosa necks.  You can see the truss rod cover that's unique to Karosa.  And the prices that they are asking seem inflated given what Karosa necks go for.  If you were to put the parts together from Warmoth, Reed James Custom for pickups, Woodguarden for a wood pickguard, and Allparts for the rest of the bits, you'd come nowhere near the $1,800 to $2,900 that Woody Woodcasters is asking.  And, from what I can surmise, Woody Woodcasters buys parts and put them together.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, but they should reconsider where they get their necks from.  The fact that they use Karosa in the first place does not inspire confidence.

I dunno bout the mahog plate - it's nice and all, but I think I wouldve used Cocobolo, and recessed it. Still, if I owned that axe there would be some serious splainin to do to my wife, i.e. why she don't see me anymore.

As I "accidentally" bought the body by placing a low bid on the body, I'm not really designing this one from the ground up.  I found that control plate on ebay, and since it was mahogany also, figured "might as well".  There weren't any out there in cocobolo ( I looked ), and it was the only wood one at the time.  Knobs were easier to find.  I haven't found any toggle tips for a tele yet.  Still looking.

The only thing keeping me from wiring it up right now is just taking the time to do it.  Its almost done.

I typically DO NOT LIKE stuff this "woody". But this one is amazing, I love it. It truly makes me want one. I've gotta say, my hat is off to you for making me like something like this, very well done. :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :hello2: :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1: :headbang1:
Keep it natural!!!!

It is a fine piece of work, isn't it? But, I still can't help myself from seeing this in my head when I see one of these overly-woody guitars...

Buying the body, and control plate, are just an excuse to use some of the other spare parts I had.  Everything else are items I've had laying around.  Pickups included
