Another Tele Question

OK. So I was in the Showcase this morning and bought a new Tele body.
:blob7:
But I have a question and could use input on the Tele pickup thing.

last year I built a tele on a Fender body. It was routed for HB, Tele neck, & Tele bridge.
So I filled all the holes with Roadhouse pickups & said I'd never have a 2 pup Tele again.

Then I bought this.

And I'm wondering if I want to mess it up or not.
Seems like it's pretty enough to go without a pickguard and standard type pickups.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks and have a great week end.

Ain't that always the way?

Understandable.

I'm not sure what you're asking. How is installing Roadhouse pickups going to "mess that up"? Seems like a perfectly logical thing to do, if you liked the results you got last time.

If you're concerned about appearance, I don't know why. It's a beautiful body, and that's not going to change regardless of the pickups you choose.

I think he's considering adding a third pickup.

to the OP:  how much would you play the guitar if it had two pickups?  How many times would you say "I wish I added that third one" then put the guitar back in the case?

If it's 'most times', then add the third pickup.  It's gonna still look great anyway.

OK, I see where I left it pretty wide open.
Sorry about that. I was pretty excited after scoring the body. And I have to decide by Monday about the pickup routes.

I was asking about putting in 3 pickups. The original idea was to replace this body with the new body & use the rosewood neck & all the hardware.

But I really like that guitar as is and I'm now thinking I would maybe just take this guitar in another direction. ie. 2 pickup no guard or small guard.

But it's so much easier and cleaner to have Warmoth do the routing if I decide to  go the 3 pickup way.
So...
I'm still wondering.
Any ideas would be helpful.

What Mayfly said.  Build the guitar you want.  If you don't want a pickguard, that's fine - Warmoth's poly finishes are HARD.

That is a really nice body. You could have it routed for the third and cover it until needed. Or perhaps you need a different setup. Maybe a couple of P90s, a mini in the neck and P90 bridge, or some other variant. It's always nice to have some different flavors around. I am converting my tele to accept a mini in the neck. I really like the way the mini (Runt) sounds and it's a great tone with the bridge.

Heck once you have the body, it's only a few pieces of hardware and neck away from a second guitar! Yes... I am an enabler.  :laughing7:

So I spent the weekend going through all the guitars at The Warmoth Gallery of Teles.

And I wore out my Kisekae checking out all the pickup options I could think of.

It seems that Cagey was right when he said
"If you're concerned about appearance, I don't know why. It's a beautiful body, and that's not going to change regardless of the pickups you choose."
Thank you.

As far as the Roadhouse pickups having anything to do with it, I guess it doesn't. I just really love my Roadhouse Specials and never miss an opportunity to throw in a plug for Ken's products.

Mayfly & Bagman, I thought about how much I would miss the 3rd pickup & decided if it gets to be too much for me I'll dig out a chisel. And I'm keeping the Roadhouse tele so I still have 3 pup deal covered.
Thanks for your input.

I started this whole 'build your own guitar thing' a few years ago when I wanted a Bluesboy but didn't like G&L's upcharge for the neck size I wanted. Since then I've put together 10 guitars. But still no Bluesboy. So...

Maybe this will be the one.

Mr.Enabler- You are indeed a thought provoker. But I don't think I should use this space for another shameless plug for Roadhouse Pickups. So that will have to come later.

One thing that did pop up was that the really pretty rosewood neck I stashed away last winter probably won't work out on this project.

What a drag. Now I need another neck!!!
