It's still cutting edge, or at least I would think so. I remember hearing something in one of the commentaries about how they sent files off to a video rendering facility with powerful computers that just rendered graphics 24/7, and it still took weeks.
On the second DVD, there is a video of a cool 3D drumkit thing with three robots that play. The commentary for that mentioned how they struggled a bit, figuring out how to do the 5.1 Surround mix, because the camera moves all over the place, and it wouldn't sound good to have the mix change with that, but it would be odd to have the mix not match the camera's point of view at all. I still have not listened to it in 5.1, but I've been meaning to, once I get a surround sound system set up again.
