An old green one...

I built this guitar many years ago, but only recently found this forum. It's not nearly as cool as some of the other ones here, but it's a great guitar and I've gotten a lot of mileage out of it over the years.

I believe I started this guitar in 1998. I had been glancing at the discount bin regularly, what the now call the In Stock Showcase, and noticed an extremely cool neck - the pau ferro had a sort of flowing river pattern in it. I ordered it, but didn't get it - got this one instead, which still looks pretty nice. I didn't quibble about it, as they had probably made a simple mistake and already sold the one I wanted anyway, and the price I paid (in 1998 dollars) was extremely low.

Then I had to find a body, and this green one was glowing on the web page and calling out my name. I had never even considered a green guitar before, but this one made sense to me.

Then it was just a matter of many trips to my local music store (Corner Music in Nashville) for the various pieces of hardware. And yes, the tuners don't match, but what the heck - they were in stock the day I needed them, and I didn't want to wait for black ones. Maybe I'll change them... in another decade or so.

The electronics have been through a few changes - originally I had a lace setup out of a strat plus in there. I found a battered EMG David Gilmour set on ebay, and was able to get it working although I had to replace the pickguard.

And behind it is an old TubeWorks amp - a RT-2100, although I only use the speakers currently - my new amp is on top, a Ceriatone Overtone Special Bluesmaster 50w, which I built from a kit, and haven't finished the cabinet yet.

awesome!

did you oil or finish the back of the neck? or is it all shiny from all the playing?

Thanks! I don't remember the official name of the color, or if it even had one - candy apple green maybe? It really glows, and almost sparkles, and is the sort of thing that can't easily be captured in photos.

The neck is unfinished - although the back has taken on a kind of sheen from all the playing over the years.

Oh - I should mention that I've been considering building a new one, partly to celebrate my amazing new amp - as if I need an excuse. This forum has also been a tremendous inspiration!

Nice. Thanks for sharing. It's good to see an instrument aged with love and grace. And I'm so into no inlays on the fretboard.
