Alder vs ash

Best for what? What style music do you enjoy/play, who are your biggest influences, what kind of pickups do you like, etc.

i don't know of any big tonal difference between hard ash and alder but that hard ash can be quite bright and heavy with good sustain. swamp ash on the other hand is more resonant and is my preferred choice but have never played anything with a rosewood neck. do you want endless sustain? do you want warmth and resonance? do you want a safe/poular choice?

EBMM uses rosewood necks on swamp ash and basswood and both sound great, you can find clips on YouTube if you want comparisons.

I'm bolting a rosewood neck onto a maple body to balance it out a bit.

Im interested in jazz and kind of blues. Not really into the heavy rock distortion type stuff. I was thinking about getting SD Jazz for neck and StagMag for the bridge but this was all before i considered a rosewood neck and all.

It won't make a huge difference either way.... my personal "holy grail" combo is Rosewood w/ebony board on a hollow korina body...  there is a good chance you get the same results with Rosewood on any kind of hollow body though :)
