A parts checklist for your next Warmoth build!

Always great to learn stuff from you, Aaron. I would caution anyone following your list to make sure the knobs you select for your guitar fit the shafts on the pots. I have uttered many swear words when I have realized that I needed a knob whose inside diameter is narrower or wider or (lord help us) splined. I want to reduce the swearing that arises in the world from this particular issue.

Also: Nice 1970's Burger King commercial callback. You and I are both old.

Literally what just happened to me. I ordered solid shaft CTS pots and the knobs I had on hand didn't fit. I then ordered more knobs with a larger "hole" which still didn't fit. Not sure how to determine what would fit now.

I feel your pain, brother.

The CTS solid-shaft pots should come in at 1/4". Stewart Macdonald provides pretty reliable specs for the stuff they sell, and they offer knurled dome knobs (older telecaster or P-bass style) here:

and there are, of course, lots of other options out there.

StewMac: Not the best price on the planet by far, but you'll be very likely to get exactly what you see on the webpage.

I have drilled out knobs before to make fit before, it can be fine but I have also ruined some trying it.

Nice 101 level instruction, but I need the 201 class - how to stop losing my parts during the wait time when my wife insists the kitchen table is not a workbench.

Seriously, I need to organize my parts bins…
I need 202 - how to not buy twice as many parts as you need because you want to investigate options ... options that you know you won't use in the end ... :)

Truly. Sometime this year I’m going to finally sort out my parts and there will be a big garage sale post here, I probably have enough to build 5 guitars and twice as many guitars worth of knobs, pickups, plastics and hardware.
