Me and a friend of mine decided to write a song today. I made a drumtrack and recorded some riffs on top of it while he recorded the solo.

Give it a listen and tell me what you think!  :party07:

Gear used (by me at least):
Diezel Herbert (all three channels used during the song)
Warmoth HSS Stratocaster with Bare Knuckle pickups.
Exotic BB Preamp.
Eventide Timefactor.
Eventide Modfactor.
Shure SM57
Sennheiser MD421

He used:
MusicMan John Petrucci signature.
GuitarRig 5

It sounds good and is well done, but it seems more like a section of a song that's gone on too long rather than a whole song. As if it's constantly moving stridently along but not quite going anywhere. If you heard it more than once over a period of time, you might not recall having heard it before.

I agree.  On the good side, everything about it sounds professional. Just as it is now, I think you could probably sell it to one of those places that sells background music for advertising.  I could totally see this being used as the soundtrack to those dvds that they play in Ski and Surf shops.

See Chet waking up early in the morning in the beginning of the scene, lens flare shot of the snowy mountain, now he's doing some gnarly (whatever they're called) as he whooshes down the mountain at high speed.

Cool! And I agree that it sound pretty much like a (good) section of a song!

You shall think in making it a whole song and sing it or get someone to sing!

While the solo sounds good, your rhythm playing here is incredible. It's so tight and compliments his work perfectly. Your tone is sick too. Great playing and I like the song. I can't help but feel like you need a drummer to play tight with you and work with the rhythms you're putting out. A drum machine can't fit beats to guitar rhythms like a real person can. This could be the start of something...

Sounds great man. Very very good.
