Jazzmaster Bass 4
Flame Maple on Walnut
J-Bass Neck & Music Man pickup routs
Schaller 471 8-String bridge rout
7/8" side jack
Tummy cut/Forearm contour
Contoured heel
Standard neck pocket
7.09 lbs, including control cover plate.

The neck will be ordered when the body is almost finished.

And I even got a complimentary extra-thick "Warmoth Custom Bass Parts" pick, which is the kind I use but I never got with my 6-string guitar purchases.  :)

What's the plan for hardware/electronics?  Also, what strings are you using?

I've been toying with using the same woods (albeit reversed) for a shirt-scale, single cut G4.

I'm considering Seymour Duncan hot MM and Hot Stack Jazz pickup and maybe a simple control layout with master volume, master tone and 3-way switch. I've never built a bass like this so I'm open to suggestions and I have plenty of time to plan the electronics.

As for strings, my only thought right now is to keep the low strings somewhat thin so I can do chords and the octave strings will ring out when I strum over 4-6 strings at a time. Low strings on top, octaves under. On Guitar Center's website for example, I only saw one 8-string set so I may find another source or build a custom set.

Chrome bridge and big chrome dome knobs. 6100 or 6150 stainless steel frets. For tuners, I'd like to get 8 matching ones (Grovers) instead of 4 small and 4 large like you see on some 8-string basses.

Just strings has a few options.

Keeping it simple is probably the right idea, but having either a mini-switch or push/pull pot to split the MM wouldn't be a bad idea.  Maybe V/V/T with a push/pull?

I have had a good experience with a Bartolini P-Bass pickup and the Barts tend to get good wraps from Bass players. Mine is used passively, but it can be upgraded to active preamp at some later stage. Quite noiseless as far as I can tell, using DI boxes instead of a bass amp.
