Anyone have experience with 6115S fretwire? The pointy stuff? I'm curious as I didn't like the feel of the 6100 stuff. Got used to it a bit, but looking for something different.

Lately I've been playing heavy gauge low action. This doesn't really lend itself to SRV wannabe three string bends, so I tend to gliss instead of bend. (Yes that's the right word. you're thinking of portamento. Its been argued here before).

Pointy sounds counter intuitive but I think it might have other benefits. Anyone try it and like or not like it?

Is that a new fret profile? I can't find it in their offerings. I haven't used it anyway, so it doesn't matter. I was just curious.

Sorry that was a typo. 6115

I have 6115 frets on several necks and I like them a lot.  Plenty of height, not so much width.  I find it very comfortable, since I don't really have a mangle-it-strangle-it fretting style.  My touch is fairly light.  I think someone with a more aggressive fretting grip might pull it out of tune pretty easily.

Cagey, Quty Pie has 6115s in stainless, if you have any memory of playing her.

I don't remember the frets being a problem, so I probably liked them. What I remember more is being converted into a Tele lover.

The only downside to that fret profile that I can see is it might wear a little faster, but if they're stainless, that's usually not an issue.

I have those frets on one of my Warmoth Jazzmaster necks. They feel very similar to the frets on my SRV Stratocaster. They are probably just a little wider overall but the feel is very close . The SRV has a 1 5/8" neck width .

I'm a reforming strangler. Not sure what to with that. Embrace it as medicine or avoid it as something I'm likely to struggle with.  Hmmm

Yes. But 6105 is narrow and still rounded. Think I'm going that route.

I have a couple of Warmoth builds with 6115 SS fret wire, and I like it very much. It's just easier to play for me than smaller fret wire, but I don't want it any bigger.

I've put em on my last two builds and love them. I can definitely hear things get sharp if I mash em. They make bending easy. They are pointy but I don't know, I just really like them. They are stainless so wearing out  should be a non issue. Here is a pic so you can see the profile.

I seem to recall someone on the forum saying that he'd use 6100s for below the 13th / 14th fret or so, and the 6115 above, so the upper frets don't feel so crowded.  They're the same height, so it shouldn't affect the action.  Never tried it myself, so can't really speak to it, but just passing the idea on.

Might be interesting as a one off instrument, but from a builders perspective, it would seem highly impractical for a production paced shop.  Crowning those might (I'm not sure) require different size crowning file, unless you're gonna just use the 3 corner dressing file that Stew Mac sells.  I'm liking the quarter round file for most stuff right now though.
