24 fret neck

Any thoughts in the pipeline for producing a "true" 24 fret neck (ie, Jackson-style) that would not require an extension (and would allow one to have a neck pickup)?

I know I would be interested, and I've heard interest expressed on one of the Jackson forums.

it would be cool to do that in a fender scale too, but maybe ken isn't into the idea of having too many route options. i guess you get enough complaints from people who should not be holding a screwdriver, moving the bridge route or neck route could cause some issues.

Sweet axe, dude!  Is that a strat body or a soloist?

I've looked for a 24 fret neck on the Warmoth page, but all I can find is just the longer fingerboard extension.  I know this won't retrofit a Jackson, but that wouldn't stop me from building a Warmoth V2 with a 24 fret neck.  Would I still be able to get HxH pup configuration?

greggs guitar is a 7/8 scale strat, it is a little known warmoth guitar that is not on the site and i believe that it is made by hand, not CNC. probably why they don't advertise it. the neck they make for it is 24 frets but is a gibson scale. also not on the site.

i'm about to order mine. but the short scale might not be for everyone.
also if you want a soloist or v2 with this neck they can move the neck route for it. and they will move the neck pup at you're request for a 24 fret neck, with or without the extention. i think they will even do a HSH route, just no HHH.

Yes. The only cost difference is +$50 up on the V2 body to position the bridge and pickup positions to work with that neck. HXH can be routed for.

Sweet.  If my Warmoth Strat turns out like I hope it will, I know what my next project will be.  Slinky Gibson scale, eh?

I would love to see a 25.5" scale neck with 24 frets but without having to resort to a fingerboard extension. I'm no expert but I'm sure this is possible, maybe just need some new cnc programs to suit. The reason I say this is because I recently built a V2 with a 24 fret neck and naturally, it has the extended fingerboard. I had been playing an ESP Viper that had a 24 fret neck but no extension. While the Warmoth build sounds much better then the ESP it is commeasurately more difficult to play high on the fretboard because the 24th fret is about an inch further away. I don't have the longest fingers so it has been difficult to adapt and I'm still struggling, especially with big bends on the 24th fret. Please Warmoth, consider offering 24 frets on a 25.5" scale but without resorting to extending the fretboard, because we all love your top quality products but for some your current 24 fret configuration is making life more difficult. I have no doubt that it would prove popular and the expense of tooling up wouldn't take long to recoup. Thanks!

you would have to move the pickup and bridge routes closer to the neck if you were to have a 24 fret neck without the fingerboard extention. This allows the scale length to line up in the other location required for the 24 frets to lie over the neck back instead of beyond it spilling on to the body. Warmoth already does this like in the strat that Gregg showed us, but they do not offer it in 25 1/2 inch scale this is something that i doubt will happen soon.

Why do you think that it won't happen soon?

Just a hitch, but it just doesn't seem like they will be able to make this mod 'til all these newer delvelopments that they've got going are set in stone...

Hi rockskate. Please excuse my ignorance but can you elaborate on exactly what these newer developments are? Thanks!

I only chime in on the 24 fret discussions. It seems pretty clear that they're not interested in this market. I recently bought a beautiful custom built neck (for about the same price as a Warmoth neck with SS frets, and vintage gloss finish). It fits my Ibanez RG Hardtail like a glove.

24 Stainless Steel Frets (Size 6105), AANJ, 16" Radius, etc... (it's essentially an Ibanez Jem Neck minus the pointyness and metalness. Builder was Pat Wilkins (he mostly does finish work for the likes of Lakland and other builders). Amazingly comfortable to play.
