24 Fret Extension Gap

Ok this question has been bugging me and I need to find out before I actually put my bass together. I ordered my bass neck to have the 24 fret extension built into it, and when I got it in I realized that the extension is built to be mounted onto a body with a pickguard on it. There is absolutely no way I am going to cover up the beautiful black korina wood with a pickguard! So the problem is that there is a small gap between the fretboard and my bass body. Should I worry about this and try to fill the gap with something or just leave it be?

You'll be the only one who can see it while you're playing, and if it doesn't bug you, don't bother trying to fill the gap.  It's not as if you'll apply so much pressure to the overhang while you're playing that you'll snap it off or something - these are tropical hardwoods, after all, and the other 96% of the fretboard is glued on pretty tight.

Ok cool, that's what I needed to hear. I didn't think I could mess up the fretboard, but I wanted to make extra sure that it was completely safe. Thanks for the help!

No it's not. It can work with or without a pickguard, so long as the neck pocket depth allows clearance for a pickguard between the body and fretboard. If you don't like the gap, you need to deepen the neck pocket route.

Well as long as that gap doesn't cause me problems down the road then I'm just going to leave it be.
